Elder Abuse Project
Established in 1994 and funded by the New York State Crime Victims Board, the Queens District Attorney’s Office Elder Abuse Project is staffed by NY State licensed professional social workers and student interns.
The program’s goal is to work with Queens seniors (60+) who have been the victims of abuse, neglect or criminal activity - physical, financial or sexual - and help them get the support and services necessary to restore their safety, health and quality of life.
Services that the Elder Abuse Project can provide:
• Assistance completing NY State Crime Victims Board claims compensation applications
• Short-term counseling in the program’s office or in the privacy of the senior’s home
• Follow-up telephone support
• Information and referrals to other community programs and services
• Assistance with the criminal justice system, including accompaniment to precincts and court
• Advocacy with government and/or community agencies and with family members
• Home, nursing home and hospital visits
• Technical assistance and presentations to community agencies and service providers on elder abuse, crime prevention and safety issues
• For work with individual victims, other (non-English) languages can be accommodated via Language Line
